I would like to thank the film industry’s scriptwriters, animators and directors for perfecting their skills to such a degree that it can halt the inane chatter of pop-corned faces in cinemas around the world. The latest silver screened instalment is a fabulous animated documentary, Waltz with Bashir; a harrowing account of the 1982 massacre in Lebanon. You may be wondering why I am exuberant with thanks and wonder toward an industry that is generally as shallow as a Barbie paddling pool, and about a subject that tells a story of bloodshed and tears.

The truth is that the medium of cinema is often used to numb an already stupefied audience with flashy CGI, loud noises and sexy actors. Serious issues are generally avoided for fear of reality tainting the magic of cinema; or something as serious as popcorn sales. What Waltz with Bashir has managed to achieve is to succeed in communicating to an audience the reality of a situation without the egotistic onslaught so inevitably placed by overzealous actors in cinematic dramatics. Waltz with Bashir is set to storm cinemas worldwide as a dark and beautiful animation that keeps us gently cushioned from post cinematic stress in this film that will stir even the most jaded cinema goer.
